――That’s amazing, but isn’t it difficult to procure works?
山田:I have been involved in the anime industry for over 25 years, and when DMM TV was launched, I personally visited each company to greet them and ask for their cooperation. Everyone was very cooperative, and we were able to achieve exclusive streaming of two works and advance streaming of 19 works in the April season. I think it’s a sign that our industry colleagues are supporting us and have high expectations for us.
We are always mindful of how we can cater to anime fans. When it comes to exclusive streaming or advance streaming, there are cases where it can be exclusive for seven years or even longer on overseas sites. However, in such cases, the works may not be available on other sites or terrestrial television, which can hinder merchandise planning and other things. Even if we have exclusive streaming, we communicate with the production companies through our contact point to find the best approach for the works, such as suggesting a period of six months instead of one year, or three months instead of one year.
――Exclusive streaming can be somewhat complicated for anime fans, right?
山田:Yes, it can be disliked. I understand that well because I also create anime.
